I have gotten questions about the differences between a newborn lifestyle photo session and a newborn photo session. I wanted to explain the difference between the two photo sessions and then explain what I do.
A newborn photo session typically involves capturing posed and staged images of the baby, often in various adorable poses and settings. This is mostly done in a photo studio. Typically a newborn sessions is done within the first 2 weeks after the baby is born. That way they are more sleepy and easier to work with.
On the other hand, a newborn lifestyle photo session aims to capture more natural and candid moments of the baby and their family in their home environment. It shows genuine emotion between the parents and the baby or even the siblings and the baby. There will be some posed pictures and I will guide you on what I want you to do. There may be a few photos of the baby on their own but it won’t be as posed and wrapped like a newborn session. A newborn lifestyle session doesn’t have to be rushed. A newborn lifestyle session can be done within the first month of the baby’s life.
At Christin Coats Photography, I only take newborn lifestyle photos. Unfortunately I don’t have a studio that I can use to regular newborn sessions. I also work a full time job that doesn’t always allow me to take the photos within the first 2 weeks of a babies life. Also I personally love capturing the interaction of the family. I love doing these at your home so you are more comfortable. If the baby needs feeding, we can take short break for baby to eat. If the baby has an accident and you or the baby needs changing, you don’t have to worry about what you will change into. We will just need the room or rooms with the best and most light because newborn lifestyle sessions are normally taken during the day.
Now that you know the difference, let’s book that newborn lifestyle session. I can’t wait to meet you and that new baby.
