Dear Mom: Please Get in the Picture
A note from your photographer
As a photographer, I see it all the time.
The moms who book the session. The ones who coordinate the outfits, pack the snacks, wipe the faces, fix the hair, and do all the things to make sure everyone looks their best. They show up ready to capture the magic — but often, they hesitate to be part of it.
They’ll say, “Oh, I just want the kids today.”
Or, “I’ll jump in next time when I lose a few pounds.”
Or, “I don’t look camera-ready — just focus on them.”
But mama — you belong in the frame, too.
Here’s why I gently (but firmly) encourage you to step in front of the lens:
This season of life? It's messy, beautiful, exhausting, and fleeting. And you're in the thick of it. These aren't just pictures of your kids — they're pictures of their childhood. And guess what? You are a huge part of that. Your presence matters, and your kids will want to see it years from now.
I know you may not feel photo-ready. But trust me when I say: your children don’t see the flaws you focus on. They see love. Warmth. Home. Let me capture that for you — not perfection, but connection. That’s what makes a photo timeless.
There will always be a reason to wait. But time moves fast, and our kids grow quicker than we can believe. One day, these photos will be all we have to hold onto. Let's make sure you’re in them — laughing, hugging, just being you.
Someday, you’ll look back at these images and see not the tired eyes or the undone hair, but the way your child looked at you. The way you held them close. The way you loved them so fiercely. You’ll be so glad you said yes.
As your photographer, I promise this:
I will guide you. I will flatter you with good light and natural poses. I will help you feel confident and seen. And I will make sure that when you look at these images, you don’t regret hiding from them — you feel proud that you showed up.
So this is your gentle reminder:
Get in the picture, mama.
Not just for you — but for the people who love you most.
